We at Rons Place Software do a lot of work with CSV and text-based data. To that end, we have created some very capable tools to help our customers do the same.
One of the tools we created quite some time ago was something called Rons Data Tools. The idea was to create an application to house various useful, but disparate, data operations into one place for things that did not really fit into another product's paradigm.
Oh, and it was free.
So What's the Problem?
The idea was that Rons Data Tools would be available to all our customers, or non-customers for that matter, with the price of entry being that the advertising banner could only be removed after registering.
Even with the advertising banner, the application was fully functional, so really the extremely low bar of entry came down to a few small advertisements.
It seems that all of this was too confusing.
And the Solution?
In the CSV world the majority of our customers buy Rons Data Edit. So we decided to simply include Rons Data Tools with Rons Data Edit.
That way 95% of our customers have access to the tools if they need them, the advertising banner is handled the same way as in Rons Data Edit, and we don't have a strange half-product in our product list.
Problem solved 😎.
As always any thoughts welcome.
